Fallout 3 build12/15/2023 ![]() So, melee in Fallout 3 is actually really powerful if you invest in the right perks and use the right equipment. So, I'd consider having a look through them before you get started for ideas - as a rough rule, anything that boosts sneak, criticals, or melee damage is a great bet.Ĭonsidering how bored I am and have so much time in my hands, I might as well give you a run-down of how to be effective with melee. Once you hit high levels, unless you're fighting DLC enemies which are deliberately unbalanced, even without chems you can be so strong that you're essentially unkillable.įinally I respect going in blind, but the game does actually show you the perks you can get from your first level up, just not at character creation. While you're levelling up, make sure to stay stocked on stimpacks and consider putting points into sneak as well as melee weapons to maximise your sneak crits, which are very powerful with melee. Together with the short-range teleport, this gives you much more dangerous - and hard to kill - than you might expect. More important is that while in VATS, you get a massive resistance to damage. VATS with melee is either a 95% to hit or you can't target enemies at all, reducing wasted AP, and it will teleport you right next to your target so you don't have to worry about misjudging distances or hitbox jank. The most important thing is to use VATS as often as possible. For a new player, a melee build is possible, but I would personally suggest bringing a nice gun for backup. Thirdly, sometimes you will encounter enemies you can't get close enough to punch, such as enemies on catwalks, rooftops, etc.Īn experienced player will be able to mitigate these issues, such as with certain equipment or strategies, or by knowing the layouts of areas so that they can, say, hide behind corners to minimize enemies' ranged advantages or ambush them. ![]() Generally speaking it's better to fight these guys at a distance instead of trying to tangle with them up close. ![]() These include end-game critters like Deathclaws and Albino Radscorpions, as well as certain Super Mutants with melee weapons. Secondly, there are some enemies where it's not a very good idea to fight them up close. Thus you may need to accept that you'll spend more stimpaks to heal up, or that you'll constantly be running back to your home to sleep. This is largely unavoidable, because you are literally bringing a knife to a gunfight. It's viable, but for your first ever playthrough, it might be a bit challenging.įirstly, you will generally take more damage with a melee build. r/galaxynewsradio - Fallout-sounding music r/falloutcosplayers - Fallout-related cosplay r/Wasteland - A subreddit for the Wasteland games. r/thefalloutdiaries - Journal-like fan fiction. r/falloutmods - Fallout modding community r/classicfallout - Classic Fallout Games r/falloutlore - The lore of the Fallout series Piracy is a permanent ban, no warnings.Īll posts and comments in end, come down to moderator discretion.
